Dreams for the future:
Dadzi was born near Cap Haitien. He has been blind since birth. He was found abandoned at a hospital and brought to the St. Joseph Family by a Swiss missionary. Because of his handicap, Dadzi was sent to live at Wings of Hope. As he grew and matured, the staff at leadership saw that Dadzi was intelligent, capable and incredibly independent. They encouraged him to not let his blindness handicap him and encouraged him to live up to his full potential.
After becoming a member of the St. Joseph Family, Dadzi spent some time at a boarding school for the blind, but was not receiving the care and attention there he deserved so he moved back to Wings of Hope. After returning to Wings of Hope, the leadership hired a Braille tutor for Dadzi and increased his educational experiences. Dadzi thrived with these new opportunities and responsibilities.
With Dadzi maturing into an intelligent young man, the leadership at Wings of Hope saw that the programs there no longer served Dadzi well and determined he was ready to “graduate” from the program and live in a more “normal” environment. In the summer of 2007, Dadzi moved to Trinity House.
Last year he attended Lekòl Sen Trinite and progressed through several grade levels in one year. Seeing his intelligence and academic progress, the staff at Trinity House then began the process of trying to get him into a regular school in Jacmel. This was not easy because schools in Haiti do not normally accept students with handicaps, but after meeting Dadzi one principal was able to see his potential and accepted him. His Braille teacher will continue to make weekly trips to Jacmel to help Dadzi with is lessons and exams. Dadzi is thriving at Trinity House as is seen as just another one of the children there. His blindness does not slow him down or separate him from the other children, either in terms of his responsibilities or his activities.
